Magnitude: 1.5, 433.8 ly distance, Size: 2 deg (~ 7 ly)
26x 100sec @ 1600 ISO 750mm 6" Newtonian Reflector and Canon 50D (Mod)
Thought to have formed 100 million years ago. The brightest stars are blue-white B giants and subgiants. Each of the nine brightest stars illuminate blue relection nebulas. Most notably: Maia Nebula (NGC1432, LBN771) associated with Maia (B8III) and Merope Nebula (NGC1435) associated with Merope (B6IVe). Other stars: Pleione, Atlas, Alcyone, Electa, Calaeno, Taygeta, Asterope, Sterope.
