Common Snipe imaged at Bear Island WMA in South Carolina.
I wish that I could recount that through expert knowledge and technique I planned and executed this shot. But as usual, that is not at all how it went down.
My brother, Joel, and I were on a day trip exploring Donnelly and Bear Island WMAs in the ACE Basin of South Carolina. One second I was shoveling snacks down and the next I was peeling myself off the dash of the truck. While puttering down Hog Island Road, we flushed this Common Snipe. Luckily, it didn't go far and we closed on it using the truck as a blind. It must have been a sight to see when I threw the 500mm lens across the cab of the truck and asked him to steady it. This shot was taken while I balanced across the console and Joel steadied the lens using the window frame. The bird was less impressed with our agility than was I.
